At Penhas Road located along Lavender Street in Singapore, you'll discover the Antoinette French Cafe is a very quaint Victorian style café that doubles as an antique boutique. You couldn’t ask for a more nostalgic place to spend the day surrounded by vintage victorian style furnishings and relics of a bygone era, feeling relaxed in this cozy place away from the bustling Singapore city. Antoninette is truly a gem well hidden with pretty interior design with a paris style design and of course the dishes serve are quality french inspired cuisine. This place had an elegant feel to it with the french-influenced decor but a nice english touch to it gave it a cosy, homely feel at the same time. If you want to experience French classic pastries, savouries and desserts, and momentarily escape to a more beautiful time and place, you have to go to Antoinette French Cafe. This cafe is a glamorous slice of the good life. Lovers of ice-cream, fine French pastries and baked goods are in for a treat. It was those reasons that brought me to Antoinette. No doubt the cafe was named after Marie-Antoinette (the last queen of France) and inspired by the style and private ambience of her favorite hideaway chateau, the Petit Trianon in the gardens of Versailles, the restaurant is so gorgeously bedecked in pink and gold-trimmed finery, evocative of the extravagance charm of the 18th century aristocracy yet understated and steeped in French elegance. The stage is definitely set for a queenly dining experience! Behind the closed doors - What greets you at the door are the romantic settings and the moment you enter Antoinette’s door, you will be greeted by enormous meringues and other sweets! Furnished like a classic chateau in France, Antoinette in Penhas Road offers a high-tea venue with delicious, delicately-concocted sweets and savouries. As far as ambience and decor goes, this has got to be the most ideal cafe on my list! Victorian style furniture, chandeliers and even the store logo attracted me in even before the food did. Walking over to the dessert rack bumped up the store ratings even more; rows of dainty cakes, cupcakes and macarons all looking very professionally done; they sure did serve as great decor! I was there to celebrate a dear friend's birthday and had fun catching up as well as enjoying the awesome food. My friend and i spent so much time talking about the lovely decor and ambience. Dining at Antoinette is about the total experience – one that is fulflling and utterly delicious in the timeless French fashion. Antoinette is perfect for the people who into the classic French style interior design, providing a romantic, classy and warm atmosphere. The interior of Antoinette has a distinctive, tasteful yet understated French flavour. I felt very comfortable here, with light soothing French melodies in the background and the heavily padded gold gilded chairs to sit on. Antoinette offers a pretty wide variety of sweets and savouries, including an all-day breakfast menu, sweet and savoury crepes, pancakes, sandwiches etc. The ‘all-day’ menu was introduced to tantalize the taste buds. It is an expanded menu supremely generous in its offerings of savories and sweets, any time throughout the day, singly or in company, in the most carefree and elegant of settings. Antoinette has quite a selection of custom-blended teas. Even the teapots and crockery are all quite ladylike, and embellished with the initial "A". (Above) Started off with the Classic French Onion Soup which was so appetizing. It was a very rich and aromatic bouillon, full of flavour from the caramalized onions and meats that was used to make it. There was a piece of cheese baguette inside. I love how the gruyere and parmesan crust covers the soup bowl. (Above) Scrambled egg gratin with tomato fondue, Paris ham, sauteed mushrooms and parmesan cheese, served with pain de mie toast. It was supremely hearty and satisfying - my kind of breakfast! It will possibly be the only meal you will ever need for the entire day. (Below) Savoury Crepe Concorde with Roasted Chicken with Bacon and Creamy Morel Mushroom Sauce served on the side. On first look, this looked like a salad dish, but it's actually quite substantial. The mushroom sauce went well with the succulent roast chicken. (Below) Also ordered their signature dessert - "Antoinette" is a sweet nod to the last queen of France. Smooth milk chocolate infused with earl grey tea envelops a hazelnut feuillitine enhanced with dark chocolate earl grey tea crémeux. But the most interesting thing is the raspberry coulis "cherry" on top. Trust me on this, it is that good. If this is your first time trying their cakes, you cannot leave the French patisserie without having it. If you are a french patisserie lover, then you should not miss the Antoinette French Cafe at 30 Penhas Road, Singapore. What I truly appreciate about Antoinette is the good ambiance. The ambience was great and the food was delicious! The great service also made my time there very pleasant. Indeed, Antoinette lived up to their tagline of a "quintessential Parisian pâtisserie and salon du thé"!
