The Palace Museum is worth every penny and is a must-visit in Hong Kong. The Palace Museum is a work of art itself, with an imposing exterior appearance, matched by the interior layout and design experienced within. It is a partner to the Palace Museum in Beijing, housing over 900 precise treasures of Chinese heritage and culture from the Forbidden City. You can easily spend 2 hours walking around and admiring priceless artefacts which are beautifully exhibited. The treasures are displayed beautifully and include English and Chinese information for visitors to understand what they are viewing. All are excellently curated in a modern, elegant yet approachable way, so that everyone can enjoy what they are seeing, be you a history buff, novice museum goer or even families with children.

I enjoyed my time in Milan, as much as I did in Switzerland. Italy's 2nd largest city, Milan is such an elegant city, often known as the fashion capital of the world and praised for its cuisine and entertainment. Milan is also a city with a rich history and home to some of the world’s best architecture and art. Many tourists come to Italy for the past. But Milan’s today’s Italy. In this city of refined tastes, window displays are gorgeous, cigarettes are chic, and even the cheese comes gift-wrapped. Yet, thankfully, Milan is no more expensive for tourists than any other Italian city. It’s worth noting that the city is known as ‘Milano’ locally. With two nights and a full day, you can gain an appreciation for the city and see most major sights.
Hong Kong is home to many structural curiosities, and among the quirkiest has got to be the Whampoa — a shopping mall shaped like a luxury cruise ship. Located in Hung Hom, Kowloon, the concrete boat is part of a larger shopping arcade named The Wonderful Worlds of Whampoa, which is a complex of shops, restaurants, and residential buildings.
When you arrive at this shopping mall centre, you might feel amazed or even puzzled why there is a luxury cruise ship between the residential areas of Hung Hom. The design of the shopping mall is somehow a tribute to the neighbourhood’s previous function as a dockyard and reminiscence the old times. Therefore it is an attraction itself, although it is reconstructed with concrete. The unique ship cum shopping mall is just less than 5 minutes walking distance from Whampoa MTR Station. A serene oasis nestled amidst a hectic urban environment in Admiralty District, the Asia Society Hong Kong Center ("ASHK") is an unexpected haven, offering visitors much needed visual and cultural respite. Formerly the Explosives Magazine of the old Victoria Barracks, the British Army originally built this compound of four military buildings mid-19th century for the storage and production of explosives and ammunition. Eventually overtaken by the Royal Navy and later abandoned, it was only granted to the Asia Society by the Hong Kong Government in the 1990s.
Affiliated with Asia Society in New York (founded in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller III), it aims to promote mutual understanding and to strengthen partnerships between Asia and the US in a global and local context. Prioritizing local engagement, ASHK holds a broad variety of programs in the form of lectures, performances, film screenings and exhibitions on the premises, in addition to frequently collaborating with other local cultural institutions. The luxuriant 19th century Dutch Painter, Vincent van Gogh is prestigiously regarded as one of the legendary artists by renowned critics, painters, and art lovers. He painted beyond 2,100 artworks that are positioned in collections and galleries globally. Van Gogh was never really acknowledged for his paintings while he was alive. He only rose to fame after his death. But today, especially specifying the current era, his paintings are looked upon, highly praised and are taken utmost inspiration from.
If you appreciate art, there is no way you haven’t seen Vincent van Gogh’s work – whether in person or through images and videos. Now, masterpieces by the Dutch artist have come to life at the Southeast Asia debut of Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience at Singapore's Resorts World Sentosa on 1 March 2023. Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is a 360° digital art experience. It transforms the room into a dynamic and engaging art exhibition unlike any other you have seen before. Accompanied by an atmospheric soundtrack and spoken quotes from Van Gogh himself, the immersive experience brings the artist’s works to life through animation. You will be surrounded by the art and become a part of the masterpiece as it is projected around and onto you. Travel Photo Series at Malmo in Sweden 《湛蓝城市》Published in Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报光影版 on 19 March 202319/3/2023 我在瑞典马尔默摄影《湛蓝城市》的照片组刊登在今天(三月十九)的 zbNOW/早报现在【光影】版 。
Happy Sunday! My blue sky travel photo series taken at Malmö, Sweden is published in full coverage in today's zbNOW/早报现在. Thank you so much!' In Malmo, there is the Swedish aesthetic and the built environment. This is, in my view, beautiful. I love the Swedish style. Some call it plain but, just like the Japanese aesthetic, you need to look closer. I love Swedish architecture and the way it combines nature and the human touch. I love their preference for simple, earthy design. Last year, I took the train from Copenhagen Central Station to Malmö and Lund which turned out to be my best time in Sweden. I MISS SWEDEN SO MUCH! For those who know me long enough will know that my favourite colour is blue. I've always wondered why people use the term 'feeling blue' when they are sad. The colour that clouded my horizons sometimes is grey, not blue. Who would feel positive by looking at grey clouds in the sky? For me, blue represents tranquility, harmony, peace, and relaxation. I don't find sadness in blue. I like the colour blue very much. It makes me see clearly and find my way in the world in a calm and coherent manner. I think your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world. Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. So try adding some bright colours to the picture by including humour, and your picture begins to lighten up. I have vowed to continue to look at the blue horizon and avoid the grey clouds of sadness to find solace and comfort in my journey towards happiness.
Happy Thursday! Thank you so much to zbNOW/早报现在 Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报 for publishing my Hong Kong photo story in full travelogue today! This was one of my favourite stops on my way to Milan from Switzerland during fall last year: Lake Como. There is something magical about Lake Como that is hard to describe. Surrounded by lush mountains and stony villages along serene waters, Lake Como is one of the most beautiful regions in Italy. There are plenty of ways through which visitors can soak in the beauty of Lake Como: hikes along ancient paths on mountain tops, stay at luxury villas whose doors open up to the majestic lake, or even quiet dinners at wine bars and quaint trattorias hidden inside the alleys of Lake Como's charming resort towns. I knew it had to be fabulous, but I admittedly was unprepared for the dramatic scenery that surrounds this Lake. The backdrop of the snow-covered Swiss Alps with the gorgeous lakeside villas dotting the foreground was like nothing I’d ever seen before. "Spectacular" would have to be the best choice of word.
Switzerland’s largest city may not have the glamour of Paris, nor the streetwise credibility of London, but Zurich has many other qualities to make anyone love it there. Unlike what many people think, it is not just about finance and fondue. Being in the city makes me feel the famous Swiss quality of life in a metropolis that has everything to not let anyone get bored. Though it has no super famous spot like Big Ben or the Eiffel Tower, the city itself is already a sideshow. Switzerland has those beautiful and bucolic landscapes with lots of parks and lakes living side by side with shopping streets, trendy restaurants, art galleries and other lively places.
Although it varies from person to person, Fall is absolutely a great time to visit Switzerland. Typically the colors in Switzerland are the best the middle of October. Zurich is covered in fall foliage and strolling the streets of Zurich is even more fun with all the natural colours. If only there was a way to take a piece of this beauty back to Singapore. Hong Kong's Hidden Gem of Tranquility: Nan Lian Garden & Chi Lin Nunnery 18/2/2023 Nan Lian Garden quickly whisks you away from the hustle and bustle of busy Kowloon in Hong Kong. A short walk from Diamond Hill MTR stop, this tiny space of beauty, harmony and seclusion boasts of the perfectly laid out Chinese garden. This garden is located among high-rise apartment blocks and skyscrapers and visitors can grasp an understanding why Hong Kong is so often referred to as the city of tradition and modernity or where East meets West. There is also another best reason to visit is the photography opportunities.
Nan Lian Garden is a Tang Dynasty-style garden adorned with antique timber structures and beautifully landscaped with trees, rocks and water features that offers a rich variety of photographic topics to photo lovers. The architectures inside Nan Lian Garden are uniquely styled and full of details. In particular, Nan Lian Garden offers a rich variety of landscape to use as foreground and background elements to enrich the composition. Changing scenery can be enjoyed if you take a stroll along the paths in the garden, with meticulously planned layout that will give you an illusion that you are within a landscape painting. Bern has been Switzerland’s capital city since 1848. However, what I pictured everything as a federal capital turned out to be the complete opposite. Many assume modern Zürich to be the Capital of Switzerland, so the slower-paced and older Capital of Bern is quite a surprise. Travel to Bern certainly changes perceptions on what a capital city should be, or what it is typically deemed to be. Absent are high-rises and a financial centre; bustling crowds and dense populations that fill miles of distinct districts that hug an old central, historical pocket. Bern retains its heritage features and packs Swiss traditions and a long history into a tiny, compact space.
What I love about Bern is that nearly all the top things to do are within walking distance from one another and you do not need to rely on public transportation to get from one place to the next. Everything listed above is located in or right nearby Altstadt or the Old Town of Bern. Besides for checking these attractions out, you will certainly enjoy just walking the streets of the Old Town surrounded by the architecture and history along the way.
Happy Thursday & Gong Xi Fa Cai to all! Thank you so much to zbNOW/早报现在 Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报for publishing my autumn Switzerland in full travelogue today! is like a dream destination for anyone, especially if you watched the Korean Drama "Crash Landing on You" #CLOY Those stunning alps, mesmerising lakes, charming cobbled streets, drool-worthy Swiss chocolates always made me wonder if this enchanted land actually exists. But yes, one trip to Switzerland and I am in awe. I encourage you to plan for a once-in-a-lifetime trip, be it in any season and you will not regret. I MISS SWITZERLAND VERY MUCH! Tsim Sha Tsui has always been known as one of Hong Kong’s major shopping centres. But what if you want to visit a different calibre of shopping mall altogether?
K11 MUSEA is the new cultural-retail destination on Victoria Dockside and neighbouring the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. Inspired by ‘A Muse by the Sea’, K11 MUSEA opened its doors in 2019, and with it ushered in a new era of innovative shopping and cultural experiences. Much more than just a place to shop, it celebrates culture, art and design over 10 exquisitely designed floors. K11 MUSEA offers customers an entirely innovative experience. Each of K11 Musea’s floors has a different art focus, spanning street-inspired works through to sculptures and impressionist works. The artworks at K11 MUSEA have been meticulously curated to explore various facets of the notion of mobility, as well as the fast-moving and increasingly interconnected nature of modern society, to inspire cultural experimentation as a creative process. (A Muse by the Sea)” 为构想意念,有不少商店均以特色主题进驻 K11 MUSEA 。 There probably isn’t a city dweller passing by the Central district in Hong Kong who doesn’t notice the looming colonial buildings smack dab in the middle of Hollywood Road, replete with huge arched windows, ionic columns, and handsome granite and brick façades. This is Tai Kwun (meaning ‘Big Station’), Hong Kong’s centre for heritage and arts, a non-profit cultural revitalisation project that likely remains the city’s largest yet. Hong Kong is home to many of the world’s leading commercial galleries but has always lacked a museum-standard not-for-profit art space. Tai Kwun Contemporary fills that gap.
Tai Kwun is located on Hollywood Road at the Central district. There are three monuments in the building complex: the old Central Police Station, the former Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison. The Central Police Station was built in 1864 and is an original three-storey classical building. The original site is adjacent to the former Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison, which also have a long history, and developed into a historical and cultural tourist area. Tai Kwun is now a heritage and art museum dedicated to bringing a rich and exciting heritage and artistic experience to Hong Kong. |
