Black & White Street Photography by Jennifer Teo
Black & White Street Photography shows various essence of the human experience. Normally, people get easily attracted by colorful things as they can refresh our moods and stimulate our imagination. However, black and white, the two classic colors also give us another interesting perspective of artistic look that is waiting for you to discover the appeal of black and white photos. Black & White are the colors of photography. To me, they symbolise the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected. Such photos can represent a pure vision of something as well as give us a detailed record of street culture. One can also create another new perception about similarities and differences of things around you.
I have always been very enthuastic in doing street photography as it is such a free, liberated and completely non-uniform nature. I find street photographs have a greater impact on people, besides the ones that experience it themselves, then reading the words of the story. Street photos have the power to make people think, feel and take action. Reading is one thing, but to actually see something that really happened reality hits a little stronger.
Street photographs can also have an effect on the photographer. Some photographers shoot some pretty pathetic photos. Some find it painful to revisit the spot where they took the shot or talk about the event that they photographed. Street photographs can impact someone for a lifetime, whether it be the person it’s happening to, the person photographing it, or the person seeing it. That is why street photography can make a big impact in peoples' lives if they let it. We can choose to see it or ignore it.
In addition, i have also created a Flickr photostream that is specially just for my ever ongoing captured Black & White Street Images which included some of the photos exhibited in "BLACK STREET WHITE WORLD". Please feel free to browse my Flickr photostream at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jenniferteophotography/
In conclusion, street photography is a very free and subjective topic. There is so much to this type of photography. There are simply so many opinions to each street photograph. It is basically up to the audience / reader to determine how they want to look at a street photograph. Some street photographs will tell history and it all depends on how the audience wants to think of the photograph. Street photography effects people on an emotion level of how they view a photo, how the photo was created and the impact it has on the person, photographer, or audience.
