A happy day! My short documentary trip to Batam in June 2012 has been published in today's MyPaper 《我报》newspapers! My photo shoot at the historic Tanjung Uma Fishing Village has been featured and i can't wait to share such good news with all of you! This photo essay on Batam Tanjung Uma Village was one of the meaningful documentary trips travelled in my life so far and i am delighted to see it in print in MyPaper 《我报》. Yipppeee! :-)
The retro and vintage style continues to be a prevailing trend in Singapore. Besides a slew of boutiques selling vintage goods with classic designs, some also offer newly made items imitating the old look. With temperatures forecast to remain chilly this week, it's also a good time to head to one of the city's boutiques-cum-cafes where vintage lovers can warm up with a cup of hot tea or coffee while treasure hunting.
Such exploration constantly surprises me with the vintage shopping opportunities that lie within. Carpenter and Cook is one such destination, a true vintage gem which i only had the pleasure of discovering recently. Located at Lorong Kilat, a stone’s throw from Upper Bukit Timah Road, Carpenter and Cook is a vintage boutique-cum-tea room where the focus is the overall experience of shopping for vintage items, which the owner is keen to create with food service and nice music playing in the background. Carpenter and Cook is a store with a comprehensive selection of retro household items and well-made kitchen hardwares. The place has earned many loyal fans and regular customers over the past year by word of mouth. On display in the rustic-looking cafe are vintage goods, such as old thermoses, travel cases and even old classic photos are pictured hanging in the store. I love bicycles and i love food too. Simple. Healthy. Beautiful. Wheeler's Yard in Singapore is a showroom for custom and restored bicycles, as well as a retail space for commuter accessories and cycling gear. It is a classic cafe with the cyclist in mind. Healthy, on-the-go upcakes, snacks, coffee and a variety of freshly made juices and smoothies. Bring your bicycle for a check-up while you sit down and enjoy some wholesome food and drink.
Part cafe, part bicycle repair shop, this newcomer’s dual identity allows diners to munch on toasted cinnamon bagels while their gears are tuned. Even non-cyclists have to admit that Wheeler's Yard's location is a pleasant breakfast spot, where fruit and honey can be chased with scrambled eggs and tempting pastries. Wheeler's Yard is quirky and informal, with the gentle clinking of spanners lending a friendly community feel. Whether you’re stepping off on a weekday morning commuting to work, looping around the nearby park or cruising through life on a relaxed weekend afternoon, this is a bicycle friendly business where you can unstrap your helmet, peel off your gloves and wrap your palms around a warming coffee or a quenching brew. Less than a year old, this new little addition and a respite from the busy city life in Singapore has popped up in the Farrer Park area, surely proved a delight for all coffee lovers out there. The Little Prince sounds dreamy….The book “The Little Prince” that we know so well, it seems like a fairy tale come true by perhaps stepping foot into the cafe and i am more than inclined to think that the cafe had this intention to lure customers into their place. It is a very young, vibrant place that gives you the youthful feel. And with the name, it is definitely attractive in its very own unique way. This place is always unbelievably busy and lively, it is hard to believe that in such a short time since they were opened they have earned themselves this reputation that people will gladly crowd around to give them their support.
The Little Prince Cafe Streets of London@British Hainan In Singapore With Vintage Interior Decor Via The Nostalgic Style9/1/2014 We all sometimes yearn for a place that has not yet been touched by today's rapid developments. Walking into Streets of London@British Hainan in Singapore feels like stepping back in time to the early 60s or 70s. Century-old wooden tables, chairs and floor, gauze pendant lamps and delicious food make it a great place for feeling the emotional appeal, giving a person a feeling of the past.
Feeling nostalgic? What is Nostalgia? A cherished memory from a period or place with happy personal associations. And you know how sometimes, you can only trigger certain memories only when experiencing specific things, like scents, sounds, objects, photos etc. Streets of London@British Hainan is littered with vintage furnitures and brings you a nostalgic and rustic ambience. It is meant to be nostalgic and looks to an elegant time in history for influences. It is a way for people to externalize and cherish memories by including that old piece of furniture from your grandma’s house for example. There are tons to things to look through, many things that bring back memories from your past, whether you were born in the 70s, 80s or 90s. Nestled in the Katong/Joo Chiat area, Streets of London British Hainan has quickly become a favourite with residents and nice getaway spot for anyone passing by. The retro photos, posters and antiques lining the walls give a nostalgic feel. Much like you'd expect in a smaller community, neighbours can be spread out across three or four tables and be keeping conversation between the bunch. Autumn, the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, is the perfect time to visit Prague. The beautiful architecture of the City is truly radiant in the softer autumn light. Autumn also puts the city of Prague in a magical mood. You can see the ancient spires decorated by an assortment of red and orange leaves, as the trees undress for winter. There are so many things to love about Prague in any season, but this autumn has proven to be the most exquisite of all. Autumn in Prague is shiny and sunny. Colored trees are seen every where in Prague that gives a perfect look of a fairy tale town.
Hi everyone, my travelling schedule is back in full swing again. I will be travelling to Hong Kong (again) mid of next month, February for another memorable trip of photography shoots. I will should have completed my entire Prague photo travelogues before then. Actually this Hong Kong trip was confirmed shortly after i came back from Prague last year due to special rates by Airline Cathay Pacific's to Hong Kong exclusively for HSBC card members for a limited promotion period.
A yearly trip to Hong Kong where i can get some classic street scenes that give a real glimpse into Hong Kong's past - the sights, sounds and smells, just amazing. Hong Kong is like a big-tiny city, made up of clusters of concrete buildings, bright lights and noise all efficiently squashed together and somehow living in harmony with the country parks and nature that perfectly frame the allure of this bustling city. 2014 will be again a better year of wonderful travelogues as well as local documentary photography shoots, so please continue to stay close tuned to my photography blog! Thank you very much for dropping by to read as always! |
