I found an excellent piece of street art at Bridges Street in the recent Hong Kong trip. My photo was taken outside the old site of American Congregational Mission Preaching Hall (now named as China Congregational Church) where Dr Sun Yat-sen once lived and received baptism.
As part of the Dr Sun Yat-sen Historical Trail that was set up in late 1996 to commemorate the 130th birthday of Sun Yat-sen, the site is one of the 15 spots in the areas of Central and Sheung Wan in Hong Kong, related to the life of Dr Sun Yat-sen and other revolutionaries in the late Qing era.

Do you want hear the birds singing in the quiet hours of dawn?
It welcomes you with a din that lies somewhere between the boisterous chirp of swarming crickets and the rousing finale of an orchestra in concert. Step closer and you realise it is a choir formed by hundreds of birds in cages lined up, rows and rows on end, pitting song against song. This, say bird lovers, is one of the most famous bird singing corners in Singapore. The bird garden located at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 is perpetually filled with a crowd of almost exclusively bird owners parading their birds. Some of the men who come to listen to them are retired, the oldest are in their late 80s. For years, the nearby residents have been awakened between five and six every morning. It could be their favorite time of the day. The song of the birds. Do you want to hear birds singing? It is here and it is free. It is inexhaustible. It is perfect bliss. So, rise early and to be awakened with the birds who from their branches and nests declare in perfect song the dawn of a new day. We seem not to be able to grasp the significance of places that are of popular significance in Singapore - places that ordinary people have grown accustomed to having around and which connect them to a sense of home. An iconic building in Singapre, Rochor Centre comprises 4 colourful flat blocks (which is yellow, blue, green and red colour) and three floors of shop and office. The building was built in the 1990s. More than 500 Housing Development Board (HDB) Flats in Rochor Centre will have to be demolished by Year 2016 to make way for an additional express highway.
The HDB blocks used to be white, until the early 1990s when they became the iconic buildings of the Rochor area after being painted in an upgrading program by the government. Singapore is a rapid developing country. Its skyline is ever changing. As such, buildings are replaced as often as the country grows. The Rochor Centre colourful flats are some of the buildings that have received this "fate". It's a pity that there is no more Kampong left in Singapore (except for the last surviving Kampong Buangkok - refer to my August 2011 blog post) where our younger generation can get to see how it was like living in the 1950s/60s or how or where their grandparents and parents once lived. That's the price of modernisation when a country seeks to progress.....

Sing Hon Loong Bakery (also known as Ghee Leong) located at No. 4 Whampoa Drive is one of Singapore's few remaining oldest and most colorful bread bakery from years gone by. These loaves of bread at this bakery provide a slice of childhood memories that is hard to replace for many of the locals in Singapore. Have you ever went to a traditional bakery shop and enjoyed the aroma and freshness of the baking and you could not resist treating yourself with the breads that are warm, soft and yummy?
What i like about bread is the slight roasted caramel taste characteristic of a well cooked crust and the slightly acid aroma of the fermentation of the inside of the loaf. Many people love bread and bread fills much of our daily life. The reason why i have done this photography shoot on this old local traditional bread bakery is because it relates many things about everyone, about us, about you, about everywhere and for every taste in every moment in life with the bread you ever had. This family-owned business has been operating in the same area for the past five decades and is widely considered as the most popular bakery shop especially among the residents of Whampoa and Balestier in Singapore. This old bakery is said to produce at least more than 1,000 loaves of traditional brown and white crustless breads. They are then distributed fresh to coffeeshops and provision shops daily.
