Birds of prey, falcons, hunting dogs and hunting types are a taste of the true old country life of days gone by. There is a falconry near Prague Castle with captive birds of prey on display near the Castle entrance. There were various hawks, owls and falcons spread out on the lawn. Falconry is the ancient art of hunting with the help of birds of prey. See for yourself what it is like when this noble creature perches on your hand and how complicated it is to establish communication with it. You will have many such opportunities on your travels through the Prague Castle. You will enjoy a unique and rare opportunity to photograph some of eastern Europe’s most charismatic birds of prey perched in flight. Using professional falconers and trained birds, you will have the chance to photograph species such as golden eagle, sea eagle, peregrine falcon, tawny owl and eagle owl. The history of falconry in the Czech lands dates back hundreds of years. Although its importance has often declined and then increased again, its spirit and romance have been preserved to this day. Often you will see demonstrations of falconry in the courtyards of Prague castles and chateaux. In the courtyards of one of these historical treasures, you can witness the special bond between these majestic birds and their owners. You will thus gain a fascinating insight into the struggle between falcon and prey in the captivating surroundings of one of the Czech Republic’s regal residences. This is part of the Royal Garden of the Prague Castle complex. It's a renaissance garden built in 1530s with a bronze Singing Fountain in the middle. If you put your ear to the bottom of the fountain, it sounds like it's singing. As a visitor to the Prague Castle, when you enter the main complex and turn left towards the sprawling gardens you could come across an unusual sight of majestic birds of prey perched on posts. A closer look will show the legs of all the birds tied to posts. These birds belong to the falconry that exists at the castle. A little sign told me that there was a birds of prey display to attract visitors to stop and take a look. For a small donation (supposed to be for the upkeep of the birds), visitors were allowed into a little park area where a couple of people had a collection of birds of prey. I was able to walk quite closely to these birds and they asked whether i’d like to hold one. Inside Prague Castle, before the Royal Garden, is a "Birds of Prey" exhibit where you can see owls, hawks and eagles chained down. Apparently this is a tradition that lives on from when there was a king to amuse. Some visitors picked the largest of the birds (naturally) and they took the obligatory snaps with them grinning like it was Christmas already. Some people later said it was like trying to hold a huge frozen turkey at arms length and that the feel of the birds massive claws through their sleeves gave them a great idea of how powerful they really are. The gentleman who owns the birds told the visitors that they were “working”‘ birds and were often used to cull pests (rats, pigeons) around the city. According the Czech trainer at the park, the relationship to work with a bird of prey is very special: even if the bird is bred in captivity, genetically it is still ‘wild’. It is not a domestic animal. The relationship provides a lot of freedom to the bird and the excitement is not only in whether or not it will be successful in the hunt, but whether it will even return! The bird does not need an owner, it can live without man. But the relationship is one of mutual respect as well as benefit. Harris Hawk. Great looking gray owl! One of the captive Golden Eagles. A Falcon with its head Gear which it looked pitiable. With quick twists of its neck, this Eagle Owl was a keen observer of all the tourists. Towny Owl. Peregrin Falcon. The falconry at the castle organises special shows of these birds in flight and also the opportunity to have these powerful birds perch on your gloved hand.
Captivating Prague In Czech Republic 捷克布拉格古美浪漫之旅 - To be continued…..
