Singapore's Orchard Road isn't just about the countless brand stores and shopping malls. It's also great for just strolling about, taking in the sights and sounds. Wander down the main stretch of Singapore's shopping district and it's hard not to get sidelined by the impressive perfomances on display. Street performers / buskers have been entertaining shoppers and curious families for years now and the variety of talent on public display just keeps getting better. Some street performers perform all day, everyday. Some are totally unique in their performance whose style is not found anywhere else. Some of them even compete in huge busker festivals celebrating excellence in street performing. Street-corner performers are usually highly skilled in their craft by several years. Reliant on these artistic skills, buskers can often be found voyaging to distant lands performing along the way. Make no mistake about it. This is their nature doing what the real busker loves - performing, passing-the-hat, counting, and traveling - forever lost in the search...of that elusive perfect pitch. Right now, all over the world, many street buskers are busy presenting their show living a life of wonder outside the office cube and down the carefree highway. They are actively creating their own life-style and are presenting their art "in living color". Street performance is an art form Ithat these people simply love to do so, it is more so by changing people’s lives who simply had no plans at all to watch a show. Then, they find themselves unexpectedly watching a street performance. They must have seen faces hardened by the worries of life soften and break into a smile and, if just for those moments, they forget the worries of their world. If street performer sees that, then he / she will know that their art is being shown. A good street performing act is like a pilot light. People come to it and some time back in their past they put aside the idea that everybody might be a dancer or an artist or a musician. Everybody has had some such a dream, but they’ve put it aside and gone on with their humdrum life. And then they see the street performer and see that somebody is managing to get away with it, with life, and managing to live between the cracks. I may never do it they say, but if somebody’s going to do it, it means my dream is still alive and maybe one day I’ll do it. It’s not too late. And that’s what a street performer is.
These precious privileges of a street performer create magical moments that continue to change my own life and to bring life’s great surprises. Street performing isn’t a living - it is a way of life.
