The Vrtba Garden in Prague dates back to the beginning of the 18th century. Quite difficult to find, the Vrtba Garden is hidden behind an unnoticeable gate. This Italian-style terraced Baroque garden is a quiet oasis in the center of the Prague city and is situated on the slope of Petrin Hill. It is one of the most precious and beautiful of Prague's Baroque gardens. Vrtba Garden is also listed in UNESCO as a protected monument.
It is a pretty small place but you can find there everything what you expect from precious Baroque garden - elegant staircases, decorated banisters, terraces, statues, flower beds and hedges. This place is enclosed by tall walls and blocks out the bustling city outside - it is a true place of relaxation. Whether you are looking to explore an unique Prague attraction, or in need of a quiet refuge for reading, the Vrtba Garden is definitely something that you do want to miss out when visiting this city.
The fact that the garden lies on a slope makes it attractive for yet another reason - from the Vrtba Garden there are magnificent views of Prague Castle and the Little Quarter including view of the St Nicholas Church. The Vrtba Garden offer charms which are definitely worth checking out.

It is easy to bypass the entrance to the Vrtba Garden. In fact, if you don’t know what you are looking for, it’s easy to walk up and down the street several times, stare down the little corridor that seems to lead to nowhere and never see the small sign that reads “Vrtba Garden.”
In the garden, you can view not just beautiful antique statues and fresco decorations but also unique bushes and trees that create the spectacular image of the garden. Vrtba Garden is composed of three-level terraces, each offering exceptional view. The terraces are interconnected by wide staircases which provide bird´s eye view of the Prague City.
The statues and reliefs were of most interest to me as they were very graceful and Romanesque, and the reliefs of mermaids that were laced with sea shells hinted at mythology. The veranda that opened up to the garden was widely domed and skillfully painted with murals that led down the walls into the welcoming statues.
For this scenic reason, the Vrba Garden has become a location of choice for many important events and you too may choose to have your occasion here also. It has been the location for numerous weddings, magazine photo shoots and fashion shows.
The garden also features an elaborately features, numerous and exuberant statues of allegorical figures and superb views of the city. For a real treat, stand at the top of the garden beginning at evening around 5.45pm when the bells of the great St. Vitus Cathedral in the nearby Prague Castle complex begin to chime.
