Do you remember how you used to like going to playgrounds as a child, hanging from bars, running up the slides, or playing hide-and-seek? Playgrounds are a welcome sight for weary parents looking for a place for their kids get a chance to expend some energy. While a simple park with a slide and swing set will usually do the trick, visiting unique play spaces can also be an interesting way to explore new destinations. Beyond high-tech features, many modern playgrounds feature unexpected and unusual architecture. I’ve rounded up various themed playgrounds island-wide just for you; each with a unique adventure to offer! This "project" took me a few months to finally complete. From whimsical, transportation, housing to play sets featuring oversized animals, these wow-worthy playgrounds in Singapore are worth adding to your islandwide travel bucket list. Here's the first today where you can bring back that innocence and fun at these two whimsical playgrounds. 1. Alice in Wonderland Themed Playground at Dawson Vista (79 Dawson Road, Singapore 141079) Hidden among the HDB blocks and among the trees at Dawson Vista is this Alice in Wonderland themed playground. The set is officially named as "The WonderLand Playground". The place welcomes all by entering through one of two doors – a larger door for adults and a smaller ones for little kids. There is even a magic shrinking potion "Drink Me" at the door. One will quickly notice the many references made from Alice in Wonderland and spot the many characters from the book. What would an Alice in Wonderland Playground be without the Cheshire Cat? He can be found smiling away, high up on a branch at the tree house structure. The Tree House is connected by a bridge to the Mushroom Adventure. Can you spot the Mad Hatter's hat and teapot? I love how the playground was carefully integrated with the whimsical Alice in Wonderland-themed design and it brings about an additional layer of imagination. From swinging under the magical tree to embarking on a Mushroom Adventure, you get to immerse yourself in a magical wonderland, just like in the story! Sometimes, there is nothing like encouraging imaginative role-play by bringing just a little bit of that magic to your mind. 2. Hansel & Gretel themed-playground at Clement Crest (Blk 445 Clementi Avenue 3, Singapore 120445) The 2nd whimisical Hansel & Gretel themed playground officially named as "The Candy Trail" is located near Clementi Central, which gives out strong Grimm’s fairy tales vibes. The centerpiece of the Candy Trail playground is the Candy House, covered in models of sweets, icing and candy. Actually, I would prefer it to be called as a Gingerbread House, in line with the Hansel & Gretel theme. Next to the Candy House is a slide disguised as a chocolate-covered delight with white sugary frosting at the bottom. Could it be a cannoli? Whatever it is, kids can climb in and slide to the bottom. I also like the nice touches added to this playground - the slanted beams that cover the whole playground to provide some shade. For those who have ever dreamt of coming upon the Gingerbread House in the middle of the woods, this Hansel & Gretel themed playground will take you half-way there.
While not the biggest in size, I think the Alice in Wonderland and Hansel & Gretel themed playgrounds certainly clinched the top in the whimsical department. These whimsical playground designs combine modern architecture with kid-friendly activities. Let the feel of outdoor play come inside with these whimsical playgrounds! Just enjoy, play, connect and empower without any stress. Have fun and let your imagination take you away!
